THE SPIRIT OF FEAR

hi there! i know it’s been quite a while since we’ve last conversed, and i sincerely apologize for that. i can make up every excuse in the book, but it still wouldn’t make up for me not dropping a single post in a little over 8 months. however, i have been super busy and i’m not lying about that. alot has happened over the past 8 months including me becoming an aunt which has been super exciting and absolutely surreal. but i’m not here to talk about that. as much as i would LOVE to go on and on about my precious nephew, i’m here to talk about something that’s been laid on my heart for quite a while now and i feel as if it needs to be shared. because what i’ve gone through may be able to help someone who’s going through a similar situation.

over the past few years as a teenager, i’ve learned a lot. not just from experiences i’ve personally gone through, but from observing other people and their experiences.

THE SPIRIT OF FEAR

we all tend to feel slightly overwhelmed every once in a while, some of us constantly feel overwhelmed. whether that be, because of work, school, friends, co-workers, family, etcetera. we feel overwhelmed. we feel weighed down. we feel confused. we feel scared.

we’re scared of what people would think if we told them what we’re going through or what we’ve gone through. we’re scared of people leaving us, because the situation we’re going through is rough and we don’t know what’s going to happen. we’re scared of the unknown. we carry a spirit of fear in our back pocket, and use it like it’s nothing. why is that? why do we live in the spirit of fear? and how do we prevent the spirit of fear from taking over?

in 2 Timothy 1:7, it says, “for God gave us a spirit not of fear, but of power and love and self-control.”

you may be wondering, what does this mean? here’s what it means.

it means that the spirit of fear, comes not from God, but of the devil. although sometimes we have a large portion of our own fault involved, but MOST of the time, this spirit is casted like a spell by the devil that we allow to consume us and take over.

it’s always right in the middle of a tough situation, the devil decides to strike in and meddle with our thoughts and emotions. it’s when we feel like nothing is going our way and we’re about ready to give up because we don’t know how much longer we can go on when we’re in this type of situation or when something is going on. it’s when we’re at our lowest points, that he crawls his way in. and we allow this. why? because we look at the devil as this big and powerful thing that can do anything and everything and we can’t stop it. false. GOD is big and powerful, GOD can do anything and everything, with GOD anything is possible. the devil is so little compared to our almighty God, but he wants you to be scared of him. he’ll do anything to make your situation worse in hope that by doing so, you’ll only fear him more. that’s when you have to pull him up by his horns, look him in the eyes, and tell him “no”. no, i’m not scared of you. no, you’re not in control. no, you’re not allowed here. my God is bigger and better and i will not let you control me or fool me into thinking any less of myself or anybody else. i am strong and capable of controlling my own thoughts and emotions.

but i know it’s easier said than done, so how do we prevent the spirit of fear from returning without using our mouths to speak?

in 1 John 4:18, it says, “there is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear. for fear has to do with punishment, and whoever fears has not been perfected in love.”

this means that to permanently cast away the spirit of fear, you’ll need to love God and His people as He has loved you. without judgement. love that is perfect and pure is love that comes from an open and giving heart. if you are not open to loving people, then you will always live in a spirit of fear. all you’ve got to do is love.
